Why Targeted Therapy Over Chemotherapy?
Currently, liver cancer treatment is continuously evolving and Targeted Therapy has become the main choice in most cases:
1. The efficacy of targeted drugs is superior to chemotherapy.
- Targeted drugs: attack specific cancer cells. Reduces effects on normal cells in the body
- Chemotherapy: Although effective, its efficacy in directly managing liver cancer is low compared to targeted drugs.
2. Side effects are easier to control
- Targeted drugs cause fewer side effects compared to chemotherapy, such as nausea, fatigue or low blood counts.
3. Using supplementary techniques to increase efficiency
Targeted drugs may be used in combination with other methods, e.g.
- TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization): Local injection into the blood vessel that supplies the tumor.
- Immunotherapy Immunotherapy: Stimulates the immune system to eliminate cancer cells.
4. Treatment appropriate to the disease stage and patient's health.
- In cases where the cancer has not spread Targeted medicine combined with surgery or radiation therapy may be most effective.
- For patients with progressive symptoms Targeted medicine helps control disease and improves quality of life.
Chemotherapy is still used in some appropriate cases. But targeted drugs have become the main treatment for liver cancer in the modern era. Because it is highly effective and reduces side effects better.
