How to Interpret Mammogram Results<\/strong><\/span><\/h1><p class=\"translation-block\">Mammogram screening is a crucial method for detecting breast abnormalities at an early stage. To standardize reporting and guide appropriate follow-up care, radiologists use the BI-RADS system (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System), which classifies breast findings into 7 categories, from 0 to 6.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Each BI-RADS level represents a different level of suspicion for breast cancer and includes a recommendation for follow-up or treatment.<\/p><h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>What Do BI-RADS Categories Mean?<\/b><\/span><\/h2><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 0 \u2013 Incomplete\n Further imaging (such as ultrasound or repeat mammogram) is required to make a complete assessment.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 1 \u2013 Negative\n No abnormalities detected. Annual screening is recommended.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 2 \u2013 Benign\n Findings such as cysts, fibroadenomas, or benign calcifications. No cancer. Continue routine annual screening.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 3 \u2013 Probably Benign\n Low risk of cancer (0\u20132%). Follow-up imaging is recommended every 6 months for up to 2 years.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 4 \u2013 Suspicious Abnormality\n Risk of malignancy (2\u201395%). A biopsy is recommended to determine if the finding is cancerous.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 5 \u2013 Highly Suggestive of Malignancy\n High likelihood of cancer (&gt;95%). A biopsy should be performed immediately to confirm diagnosis and plan treatment.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">BI-RADS 6 \u2013 Known Malignancy\n Cancer has been confirmed by prior biopsy.
