Leaving Breast Cancer Untreated Is Deadly

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Thailand. If detected early, it is highly curable. However, leaving breast cancer untreated can lead to severe and life-threatening consequences.

What Happens If Breast Cancer Is Not Treated?

1. Tumor Growth

  • The tumor continues to grow larger.
  • It may rupture, causing open wounds, infection, and bleeding.

2. Spread to Lymph Nodes

  • Cancer often spreads first to the axillary lymph nodes.
  • Enlarged, hard, or painful lymph nodes may be noticeable.

3. Metastasis to Other Organs

  • Lungs → Chronic coughing, difficulty breathing
  • Liver → Jaundice, fatigue
  • Bones → Bone pain, fractures
  • Brain → Headaches, speech difficulty, paralysis

4. Rapid Decline in Quality of Life

  • Severe pain from tumor and wounds
  • Rapid weight loss and muscle wasting (cachexia)
  • Inability to perform daily activities

5. Increased Risk of Death

Once cancer spreads, the chance of survival significantly decreases.

Why Is Early Treatment Crucial?

Early-stage breast cancer has a nearly 100% survival rate if treated promptly. Delayed treatment reduces the chance of cure and increases treatment complexity, pain, and costs.

Common Treatments for Breast Cancer

  • Surgery (lumpectomy or mastectomy)
  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Targeted therapy or hormone therapy
  • Palliative care in late stages

Treatment choices depend on cancer stage and patient condition.

If you notice any lump or changes in your breast, don't wait. Early detection leads to a higher chance of cure and better recovery.
